Whats the go with Sharks around NZ?

I don't really think about them much when surfing in Aus, but when surfing places solo and the waters a bit murky then its hard to not think about them haha.

Anyone had any experiences or is it pretty rare to cross paths with them?

you have more chance of getting turned down for a root by a greymouth girl than getting bitten by a shark. they're there for sure, no cunt ever gets bitten, just like no cunt EVER gets turned down.

Had a few run-ins, but nothing where I thought my time was up. Well, there was that one time at North Piha...

Anyways, you're statistically far more likely to be attacked by a shark in Australia than in NZ

There's sharks everywhere in NZ. Except they're a bit further off the coast. Australia definitely has more sharks closer to shore. In North Queensland they have shark baits and I used to see them hauling big tiger sharks onto boats about 200m off the beach.

i'd be very concerned about sharks if your buying a car or a van you will probably encounter a few sharks no doubt.
i had a friend come over from germany he was driving and the front wheel fell off! cost him more than the van to repair it... sheesh can you imagine a wheel falling off.

UKBOOG - that was a shark called a 'wobbegong', they have no actual teeth cos the eat mussels and things in shells mostly. they'll clamp on like a bastard, but the moth plate thing doesn't actually have pointy teeth. woulda been heaps of them in the area, there always are, I used to dive there too. divers grab their tails all the time to stir them up, but get the shock of their life when the wobby turns and clamps onto their thigh or something. Usually you have to cut their head off to make them release or bang 'em on the head poor shark - stoopid diver).
too much hype about our beastie friends (stoopider media), ocean is their place anyway as i see it.
looks like you;re going on some road trippin'. hope you score and it's bite-free mate :)
