what do you think, i think its the best thing to happen to bodyboarding in 10 years.
the sport needs money and nike has plenty of it, hopefully the make the right decisions to grow the sports competition scene and prize money.

I think its a great idea the more companies such as nike that get onboard the better, more exposure for the sport and bigger sponsorship would be dope for the contest fiends maybe they could make good careers out of riding lids.

The support is great. Just a shame that it comes from Nike - one of the most evil corporate empires around. They run huge sweatshops in Asia where they pay their workers a pittance to work in inhuman conditions. Meanwhile Nike makes huge profits from all the mindless clones who are gagging to have a big swoosh brand on some otherwise lame piece of generic clothing.

While this could be seen as good news, I still think that it's not going to dramatically change anything or make a huge impact.

What I think needs to happen is for a big company like Nike to sign a whole team of riders and push them into doing team trips and events.

Or for a TV channel such as Discovery to do a whole TV series about bodyboarders hunting waves in similar vein to the Storm Riders show with Tom Carroll and Ross Clarke Jones. Imagine a crew like Brad Hughes, Mitch Rawlins, Chad Jackson, Hardy, Winny and Kingy camping, driving around and riding waves with limited funds and doing it for the love of it.

its like that in most third world countries, children working is better than children getting killed or committing crimes, still sh1t. I personally don't think this nike sponsorship will push the sport very far let alone into the mainstream though..wonder how long it will last.

Yeah - I agree Rutts. It's better to have a shit job that pays badly than no hope at all.

The disgusting thing is that Nike makes mega-bucks and could afford to pay their workers a much better wage, therefore actually improving their lives. Instead they purposely pay them barely enough to survive to keep entire families locked in a cycle a dependence on Nike's sweatshops. Thus Nike always has a huge pool of submissive workers who are grateful to be paid $1 a day.

It's nothing but heartless exploitation by a global corporation.

I reckon its sick.... as always heaps of negative haters in the bodyboarding industry. A churchill / Nike colab on fins would be sweet, not that it would ever happen.

Question is, do you want your money going to nike or a bodyboarding company.

so does this mean nike is moving into surfing?
a brand like nike doesnt just go on a whim and sponsor somebody - they obviously have some global domination plan in place.

and on the evil corporate empire thing - thats why I only buy fake, illegal nike copies. I only buy the best copies however. gotta love living in china, global corparations can kiss my fake goods clad ass

Max.c my money already goes to nike, if booger companies started making dope kicks id def switch over! I think the nike 6.0 project is a rad idea, taking groms and helping push them further n their sports as aposed to milking already established riders. It may or may not be good for the booger industry time will tell. In the meantime good on PLC id happily switch with him! :)

I'm sure you're probably right MauMau. Using cheaper labour in developing countries is very common in the fashion industry.

It's just that Nike are one of the worst offenders and have been doing it unashamedly for years. Just type "Nike Sweatshops" into google and you'll see the depth of their exploitation.

joz, i agree with what your saying but isnt it sort of like 'wallmart comes to southpark'
if you dont buy nikes and instead buy rebok for example, they are only doing the same thing or a new manaufactur comes with the same ideals as nike?
but i do aggree with you, it makes you wonder how they sleep at night...

Good on ya PLC, make that paper son, doing work!

Totally see Joz's POV and I hate the idea of what they have to do to produce the best shoes in the world.

Agree with you Tezza, I hate the idea of Bodyboarding going mainstream, think I'm in that generation who likes all things underground. I think its safe to say that bodyboarding will always be the ugly sister/cousin/aunty of surfing, even with a NIke signing.

I like the idea of having a doco, like the storm surfers (those guys are actually tools eh, knobs). Boogers would make it look way less wanky.

Dunno why you fullas want your sport to go mainstream, as crim says. It will just crowd up your breaks with more boogs = less waves and more hassle. Compare it to surfing - would you prefer it underground a-la 1970s / 80s? Or like today? Raglan in the 70s or the 00s? Know which I would prefer.

btw, those doug young / clark-jones / tom carroll storm-surfer discovery channel wankers are not at all well liked down deep southwest way for what they did in exposing surf spots etc. Just got back from that way and they not very welcome back. Pricks. Lessons to be learnt.

Nike is disgusting on soo many levels. Im surprised that theres a few of you that actually like their generic, no style, logo drenched product - even with all their exploitation aside.. I would have thought boogie boarders would have more creativity and style than that.. If i was given a pair of Nikes for christmas, first thing I would do is rip that ugly whip shaped logo off!!

bodyboarding will never go mainstream, but more exposure on tv is the difference between a kid buying surfboard because he has never heard of bbing.
its ridiculous to say 'i'm affraid of it being mainstream' if someones going surf or bodyboard they will do so, as i said, the difference is instead of 1 bodyboarder to every 25 surfers, it might end up being 4 or 5 bodyboarders to every 20 surfers. the crowd will be the same.
97% of population dont even know what proper bbing is all about, so it needs exposure.
i buy nikes because they last about 8-10 years... not for a tick.

i just got nike's. course you would buy them. better quality than any shit you get at the warehouse. they dont last you 8-10 years probably but light, comfy and do last long enough if you treat them well. stop bitching about nike when there are thousands of companies that do the same thing and are all generic which you probably buy from. hard out with pus on that one to. good call

I play a lot of Basketball, and you can't go past a good air of Nike shoes. When I was young and stupid and after a big pay cheque, i was dum enough to get a Nike tattoo on my arm, one of the stupidest things I've done, but I'm in the motions of getting it covered up.
I don't buy Nike clothes or apparel because the warehouse and Otara flea market are ka pai for me in that department.

And who knows what sort of motives Nike has, and I agree that mainstream bodyboarding sounds a bit scary, but like peeps have said, if it gets more kids on lids then that's cool with me.
