There's lots of good new music out there at the moment. What's a pretty recent (say last 12 months since release) album that's spinning your wheels and why?

This topic runs from time to time and is always pretty popular coz it gives everyone an idea of what the boog crew is rocking to. My list:

Them Crooked Vultures - Self titled:
Ignore the "Supergroup" celebrity bullshit talk, this is the best dirty hard rock album to come out in the last year.

Mos Def - The Ecstatic:
Intelligent and diverse Hip Hop album from a highly underrated Muslim American. A mind Expander...

Mastodon - Crack The Skye:
This is what smart metal music is all about. Epic songs, heaps of energy and lots of well-placed growling. Gutted I missed their BDO set.

Im getting into my reggae/dub lately:

Thievery corporation - radio retaliation: real relaxed dub, different but good

Salmonella Dub - freak controller: Decent NZ music

Fat Freddy's Drop - Dr Boondigga and The Big BW: Also decent NZ music

David Dallas - Something Awesome

The best emcee in NZ with a really solid album that's good for anything - cruising, partying, dancing, or catching the bus on the way to work like me. And your lady will like it too. This brings back the ol' boom bap with the classic golden era hip hop formula. No dirty south try hard shit here.

Mean maori mean!

OK, new albums from the last month or so....

P.O.S. -Never Better
I'm not a massive hiphop fan, but this shit rules!

(disclaimer-Lindsay, you will probably shoot me for this one, but..)
ALESANA -The Emptiness
Cheesy, screamo. Everything tells me I should not listen to this, but I love it!!

Yeah bro Dizzee is awesome!

I like that he sticks to his British accent and music style but has incorporated a lot of 90's classic hip hop into his latest album like the song "Old School".

These tunes def are not fresh, but its prob the best 90's punk compilation you'll see.

Google wrecktrospective and get your hands on the 3 disc goodness.

>> Cap Down - their latest release 'wind up toys' is definately worth a listen. Ska-punk/metal.

If you enjoy dubstep then check out Mt Eden dubstep on youtube.

Its a kiwi boy mixing at home and has over 1 million hits on one track alone.
